Peter Grey

Independent Non-Executive Chairman

Peter is the Independent Chair of the Board and the Chair of the Board Nomination Committee for MLC Limited.

In addition to Peter's position on the Board, he is also the President of the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee Ltd (AJBCC), a Director of Business Events Sydney, a Director of the European Australian Business Council (EABC), a member of the Asia Society Advisory Council and a member of the Centre for Strategy and Governance.

Peter has spent more than 40 years in various roles for the Federal Government. These roles include CEO of the Australian Trade Commission, Deputy Secretary of DFAT, and Chair of DFAT's Audit Committee. Peter was also Ambassador to Japan, the European Union, the World Trade Organisation in Geneva, Senior Official, and first ambassador for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). He was also Chief Trade Negotiator for a substantial time.

Previously, Peter was a member of the Boards of the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF), the Australia-China Council (ACC), the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR), the Australia-Korea Business Council (AKBC) and the Australian Dairy Corporation. After leaving the government sector, Peter served as Co-Chair of the Australian-Japan business group of Corrs Chambers Westgarth and a senior advisor international at Link Group.

Peter holds a Master of Business Administration from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from Sydney University. Additionally, Peter is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of International Affairs.

He was awarded an Order of the Rising Sun with gold and silver stars from the Government of Japan in 2017.
